Minors: "related to a major" vs. "free-standing"

The distinctions for undergraduate minors as “free-standing” or “related to a major” are entered into Coursedog and while they do not appear in a public-facing space, they are utilized in determining what type of program assessment is needed.

Free-Standing Minors are not associated with a major and should be considered independently in the program assessment process (for example, the Leadership Minor or Business Law Minor). Free-standing minors should follow the same process and procedure as all undergraduate baccalaureate programs in submitting an annual assessment report through the primary college.

Minors related to a major are closely tied to a major and are wrapped into the assessment of that program (for example, the Political Science minor is related to the Political Science B.A.).
